Xiaomi Pad 5 Review; Xiaomi Pad 5 was first introduced in China with the Mix 4, and now, along with two new 11T series smartphones, it has been unveiled globally. Xiaomi Pad 5 is a beautiful and affordable tablet that is equipped with a Dolby Vision display and Dolby Atmos speakers, and its performance is similar to that of the flagship tablets.
Xiaomi Pad 5 Review
The tablet in question is priced at 349 euros, and considering this price, many features and capabilities have been considered for it. It uses an 11-inch 120Hz IPS display and also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. The processor of this product is Snapdragon 860 and it is equipped with four speakers with support for Dolby Atmos. The battery of this tablet has a high capacity and its main camera has a good performance.

The Pad 5 also supports Xiaomi’s Smart Pen. The Xiaomi Pen is priced at € 99 and is sold separately. The stylus is similar to a regular stylus that has good resistance and connects to the tablet via Bluetooth. The display of this device supports 4096 pressure levels. The input speed of this pen on Xiaomi Pad 5 is 240 Hz. One of the edges of the tablet is equipped with a magnet to hold the pen. If you are interested in writing or drawing on a tablet, you should probably consider getting one.
Xiaomi Pad 5 does not support mobile networks and is only available in WiFi model. In addition, the tablet in question does not have GPS. Xiaomi has obviously produced this tablet for multimedia applications. Pad 5 features are great for enjoying multimedia content. If you are looking for more features, it is better to buy the Pro model of this tablet. The Pro model supports 5G and has eight speakers. The Pro also uses a dual camera.

First, let’s take a look at the technical specifications of this product:
- 254.7 x 166.3 x 6.9 mm body, weighs 511 g, glass front panel and aluminum and plastic back cover, stylus support
- 11-inch IPS Aluminum display with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10, 1 billion colors, Dolby Vision, 1600 x 2560 pixels and 16: 10 aspect ratio with 274ppi pixel density

- Large 8720 mAh battery with 33 watt fast charge support (charger in box is 22.5 watts)
- Equipped with accelerometer sensor, gyroscope, proximity, compass
This tablet runs Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 user interface optimized for the tablet. You can turn this tablet into a professional device by connecting a keyboard and stylus.
It would have been better if Xiaomi had put the pen in the box; Just like Samsung, which comes with the stylus in the S7 series tablets. Maybe by adding a pen to the Pad 5 box, the price would increase a bit, but it would certainly encourage more users to buy.
Design and build quality
Undoubtedly, the Xiaomi Pad 5 is one of the most beautiful tablets on the market in recent times. This product is equipped with a flat aluminum frame and has a polished appearance. The front of the device is covered with a full screen display with narrow margins. The back of the tablet has a beautiful appearance and its material is plastic, which covers the aluminum chassis of the device.

Most likely you will be satisfied with the design of Xiaomi Pad 5. The weight of this product is also very low. The dimensions of the device are also suitable, and the support for Dolby Vision and the Snapdragon 860 chip make the Pad 5 more attractive.
We have reviewed the white model of this product here. When light is shone on the body of this device, it will have a beautiful effect and the simple white color will become attractive.
It should be noted that the location of the fingerprint on the white model that we had was not clear. The tablet is also available in gray and green. Of course, the green model is limited to the Chinese market.

Of course, the location of the fingerprint on the front panel of the device is very clear; But with a regular cloth, you can easily clean the Xiaomi Pad 5 display. Of course, after working with this device for a few minutes, its screen will be full of fingerprints again.
This product is equipped with a 10.9-inch LED display and supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Other features of this screen include support for Dolby Vision and HDR10. The display also supports Xiaomi Smart Pen and has a touch detection power of 240 Hz. The Xiaomi Pad 5 display also detects 4096 pressure levels for the pen. It should be noted that the pen is connected to the device via Bluetooth.
Xiaomi smart pen has a matte design and is made of plastic. There are two buttons and an interchangeable head on this pen. The lower key is used to take quick notes or change the font and switch to eraser while writing, and the upper key is used to take quick screenshots or change the font color.

The edges of the screen are narrow, but large enough to be easily held without covering the screen. Because the selfie camera is hidden on the edge of the device, it can not be easily seen.

The rear camera is 13 megapixels and has a dual LED flash. Of course, it does not seem that the camera system of this tablet needs such a space, but apparently Xiaomi has decided to apply the design style of the camera part of its 11 Series smartphones to its new tablets.

On the left edge of the device are several pin-shaped dots that are the place to connect the magnetic keyboard. On the right side, there are volume buttons and two microphones. A magnet is placed in the middle of this section, which is responsible for holding the pen. The pen will be charged wirelessly by connecting to the edge of this tablet.

There are four speakers on the two smaller edges of the device. The dimensions of these speakers are 16 by 20 mm and they also support Dolby Atmos technology.
On the top edge of the Xiaomi Pad 5 is a power button and another microphone. Finally, at the bottom edge of the product in question is a USB Type-C port and a third microphone.
Xiaomi Pad 5 has good dimensions and it is enjoyable and easy to hold and it does not slip. This product is very suitable for watching movies and games, and the ability to magnetically connect the pen is also an attractive feature.
Display, battery and speakers
One of the key features of the Xiaomi Pad 5 is its 11-inch LED display. Of course, the exact dimensions of this screen are 10.9 inches and its resolution is 2560 by 1600 pixels. The aspect ratio of the screen is 16 to 10 and its pixel density is 274ppi. One of the most important features of this display is its 120Hz refresh rate. Other features of the Pad 5 display include support for 10-bit colors, HDR10 technology and Dolby Vision.

Let’s not forget that this product also supports the Xiaomi Smart Pen with a sampling rate of 240 Hz and 4096 pressure levels.
The panel used in Pad 5 has good brightness and its colors are displayed with good quality. The screen supports one billion colors.
Another feature of the Pad 5 display is support for HDR10 and DolbyVision, which allows you to enjoy the highest quality streaming services. Finally, this screen supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It is possible to select the refresh rate between 60 and 120 Hz, but this panel does not have the ability to automatically adjust the refresh rate. This means that except for videos and images, everything is displayed on this monitor at 120 Hz. Of course, the ability to automatically adjust the screen refresh rate with software updates may be added to this tablet.
In our tests, the screen brightness of the Xiaomi Pad 5 reached 478 nits. Unfortunately, it is not possible to increase the brightness in the sun in this product. This option may also be added to the device in question with a software update. Of course, when watching HDR content, the screen brightness increases. Finally, it should be noted that when working with this tablet in the sun, there was no particular problem in terms of screen brightness.

The amount of brightness and deep black color has caused the contrast ratio of the Pad 5 display to reach 1270: 1. The minimum brightness of this display is an extraordinary 1.9 nits.
There are three default color modes for the Pad 5 display: Vivid, Saturated, and Standard, each with its own color gamut. You can select adaptive color mode that works similarly to Apple’s True Tone mode and adjusts colors according to the color of the ambient light.
The Vivid option is intended for reproducing the DCI-P3, and if we factor in white (which is slightly bluish) and gray, its performance was accurate in our review. Of course, you can solve the problem of white blues by setting the color to warmer.
Saturated mode causes colors to be produced with greater concentration. In standard mode, colors will be displayed according to the sRGB standard.
Battery life
Xiaomi Pad 5 is equipped with a large 8720 mAh battery. The international model of this product is marketed with a 22.5 watt charger. Although the tablet also supports a 33-watt charger, the charger in the box has less power.
The tablet scored very well in the battery test. This product lasted 14 hours and 31 minutes in the web browsing test. In full screen video playback test, the battery of this device reached 10% after 14 hours. This statistic is great for the tablet Pad 5 battery.
The video playback test was performed at 60 Hz and the web browsing test was performed at a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
Charging speed
As mentioned, the tablet in question comes with a 22.5 watt charger. The battery of this device was 27% charged after 30 minutes in the test performed with the charger inside the box.
The Chinese model Pad 5 also supports 33 watts of charge, and we still do not know why Xiaomi has limited the international model of this product to 22.5 watts. We also tested this tablet with a 33 watt charger and we have to say that the device charged faster with a 33 watt charger. In fact, this product was charged 37% in 30 minutes with a 33 watt charger.

It takes 2 hours to fully charge the device from zero to one hundred percent. If you use a 33 watt charger, the time required to charge the device will be reduced to 1 hour and 38 minutes.

There is nothing wrong with the Xiaomi Pad 5 in terms of charging speed, and it would only be better if this product was marketed with a 33-watt charger by default.
Four Dolby Atmos speakers
Xiaomi Pad 5 is equipped with four high-quality speakers, which also support Dolby Atmos. The dimensions of all four speakers are 16 by 20 mm, two of which are on one side and two of which are on the opposite edge.

The sound output of these speakers is very high and balanced. This tablet scored very well in the loudness test. Dolby Atmos feature is enabled on the device by default. This feature does not change the volume and only improves the quality of the bass and middle tones. Without activating Dolby Atmos, the bass vacuum is felt in the sound of the tablet in question.
Overall, the sound quality of the Xiaomi Pad 5 is very good.
Software and hardware performance
Xiaomi Pad 5 uses Android 11 operating system with MIUI 12.5 user interface which is optimized for tablet. Version 13 of the MIUI user interface will also be available for this device in late 2021.
Xiaomi has announced that three major Android updates and four years of security updates will be released for the company’s 11T phone, but unfortunately the software support for the Pad 5 tablet will not be like this.

The MIUI 12 launcher is now familiar to many users. Of course, Xiaomi has optimized this user interface for the mentioned tablet so that users can better use its capabilities and features.
This tablet is not equipped with a fingerprint sensor. You can use a PIN, password, pattern or face recognition to lock the device. The Pad 5’s face recognition function is good, but its security is not as good as the fingerprint sensor, and it can be bypassed with a photo of the device owner. In addition, it is possible to unlock the tablet with Bluetooth accessories.
The App Drawer section is not visible on this tablet by default, and all apps, widgets, and folders are located directly on the home screen. Of course, you can activate the App Drawer section if you wish.
The Notifications and Control Center section is designed like many other tablets, and you can access the notifications by swiping from the top left edge of the screen, and open the Control Center by swiping from the top right corner of the screen.
The running applications section has not changed much, and you can see up to six applications in portrait mode and up to eight apps in landscape mode in this section. By tapping and holding your finger on any card, you can access the ability to split the screen or shortcuts to floating windows. You must also drag or drop apps to close them.
In addition, there is a button for the floating window, which has been added to this interface since the introduction of MIUI 12. You can float an app compatible with this feature.

The MIUI tablet version on the Xiaomi Pad 5 that we reviewed does not support themes, and there is no app to access themes. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
Xiaomi has improved the MIUI 12 user interface in terms of security features. For example, when sharing photos and videos, their location information can be deleted for the recipient.
MIUI also has a security application. This app checks your tablet for malware and monitors battery performance. You can also free up some RAM space with this app. Other features of the app include managing the access of installed apps and determining how to consume battery power for selected apps.
This interface provides users with other capabilities such as shortcuts to access the second space and game turbo mode, both of which are available through the security application.
Xiaomi’s user interface also provides users with dedicated gallery, music and video applications. The Notes app has also been optimized in MIUI 12 to work better with the Xiaomi Smart Pen. In addition to all the previous features, this application also allows the user to write with a pen and supports several font styles for writing.

The interface in question also supports dark mode, and you can set the wallpaper settings to change color by selecting dark mode. Below you can see some screenshots of the Pad 5 tablet user interface.
MIUI 12 is optimized to run on HRR monitors and looks good. Everything is fast in this user interface and the animations run smoothly. Also, paying attention to details in this user interface is very much and you will enjoy working with it.
Xiaomi Smart Pen Capabilities
Xiaomi has included a magnetic pen for this tablet that you can purchase separately. This pen is produced exclusively for Pad 5 and its input rate is 240 Hz and it is able to detect 4096 pressure levels.
The pen is connected to the device via Bluetooth and magnetically attaches to the side edge of the device. The pen battery is charged wirelessly by connecting to the edge of the tablet. It can be used continuously for up to 8 hours with each full charge of the pen. With one minute of charging, you can work with it for up to 20 minutes. Unfortunately, you can not use the pen if the battery is completely discharged.

Xiaomi Smart Pen has two buttons that you can open the note app in handwriting mode by pressing the down button and tapping the device screen. While writing, you can move between different pens by clicking this button or activate the eraser by holding it.

You will enter the screenshot mode when you press the up button. Here you can choose between four shapes to take screenshots. When writing, you can change the color of the pen by pressing the button above the pen.
Performance and benchmark score
Xiaomi Pad 5 is equipped with a powerful Snapdragon 860 chip. This processor is an updated version of the Snapdragon 855 Plus chip, which was Qualcomm’s top mobile processor in 2019.
The 7-nanometer Snapdragon 860 is manufactured by TSMC and uses eight processing cores. One core of this chip is Kryo 485 Gold with a working frequency of 2.96 GHz. The other three cores of this processor are Kyro 485 Gold with a working frequency of 2.84 GHz and its four cores are of the type Kryo 485 silver with a working frequency of 1.78 GHz.
The GPU is the Adreno 640 GPU, which is relatively powerful and can handle heavy gaming.
The international Pad 5 model is available in two versions. One model uses 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, while the other model is equipped with 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. The RAM of this product is LPDDR4x and its internal memory is UFS 3.1. Now let’s take a look at the performance test of this device.
Considering the price of the 350 Yuri Pad 5, the performance of this product is better than the 600 Yuri tablet of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7.

The performance of the Xiaomi Pad 5 is fast and without lag, and as we mentioned, the Snapdragon 860 chip also allows HRR games to be played. The cooling system of this device also works well because no part of the body of the tablet got too hot while working with it.
The product scored 85% in the one-hour CPU Street test and 99.4% in the 3D Mark Stress test.
As a result, it can be said that Xiaomi Pad 5 is able to perform heavy tasks and modern games, and there is no performance reduction in the execution of heavy programs and games.
Camera
The main camera of this tablet is 13 megapixels, next to which there is a dual LED flash. The front camera of the Pad 5 is also 8 megapixels. The back sensor of the device in question is 24 mm and its aperture is f / 2.2, which also supports night mode.

The tablet’s 8-megapixel selfie camera is 24mm and has an aperture of f / 2.2 with fixed focus.
The camera application of this product is very simple and allows the user to record videos and photos. By tapping More you can access other modes such as night mode and automatic HDR as well as artificial intelligence optimization system.
Photo quality
Surprisingly, the quality of the images recorded with the Pad 5’s 13-megapixel camera is very high and full of details. The sharpness of the subjects in the images is good and the dynamics of suffering are normal. The contrast of the images of this tablet is also very good. Also, the colors in the photos taken with this camera are vivid and attractive. Image noise is also very low and can be ignored for a tablet at this price.
The selfie camera also performs well and captures images with relatively good detail. The colors of the colors in this lens are natural and the contrast is normal. But the dynamic range of the images recorded with this camera is not good, although you can solve this problem to some extent by activating HDR.
The main camera of this tablet also has a relatively good performance at night. The colors in these images are well saturated and the noise reduction system does not completely eliminate the details of the image. In general, we recommend turning on HDR mode for night photography with this tablet.
Video quality
Xiaomi Pad 5 rear camera can record 4K video at 30 frames per second. The selfie camera of this tablet also offers the possibility of recording 1080p video at a rate of 30 frames per second. The possibility of activating the digital anti-shake system is also available to users.
The bitrate video recorded in 4K clips with this tablet is 41 Mbps and the audio is always stored in stereo and bitrate at 96 kbps. Of course, this low rate is not the reason for the poor quality of the recorded sound, because the Pad 5 uses several microphones to record the sound, which makes the quality of the stored sound good.
4K videos recorded with the Xiaomi Pad 5 have good sharpness and detail, and the contrast in these videos is good. The dynamic range in these clips is balanced and not much noise is seen in the videos. Overall, the quality of the full HD videos recorded with this tablet is satisfactory.
The quality of 4K videos at night is not very good and the colors are not recorded well in the dark, but it is still possible to record acceptable videos in low light with this device.
We hope you enjoy this review. What do you think of the Xiaomi Pad 5? Please share your opinion with Wironal and other users.
