Xiaomi is testing the Pure Mode feature to limit the loading of APK files in MIUI. This feature will be optional and is designed to increase the security of Xiaomi phones.
Installing APK files is one of the most desirable features of the Android ecosystem that sets it apart from Apple’s iOS. Unlike Android, Apple users are only allowed to install apps through the company’s official App Store. Of course, uploading from various sources and installing APK files on Android devices carries risks. Installing a malicious APK can cause malware to enter your Android phone. To prevent this from happening, Xiaomi is testing a new feature for MIUI called Pure Mode, according to Androidauthority.
Pure Mode feature
According to ITHome, Xiaomi has begun testing the Pure Mode beta. This feature allows the user to block the process of uploading APK files to their Xiaomi phone. By enabling this feature, users will no longer be able to install APK files from unofficial sources. Pure Mode feature is optional and can be disabled.
The purpose of the Pure Mode feature is to prevent the risks of loading the APK file. This feature allows users to have more control over the applications that are downloaded to the phone and ensure that they are downloaded from reputable sources and malware does not enter the phone.
There is no word yet on the official release date of the Pure Mode feature in MIUI, and its beta test appears to be limited to China.
