The new generation of Samsung’s popular midrange is no different from the past, except for a chip change and a slight increase in battery capacity. Check out the Galaxy A53‌ with Wironal.

In recent years, Samsung has gained a lot of popularity and sales with the Galaxy A family of devices such as the Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A52. Accordingly, the Koreans recently introduced the latest products of their intermediate family in the form of three models, Galaxy A33 and Galaxy A53, along with the Galaxy A73.

The Galaxy A53 is no different from the previous generation, despite the chip change and a slight increase in battery capacity. Can these changes persuade users to buy the Galaxy A53? Check out the Galaxy A53 with Wironal.

Design and build quality of Galaxy A53

The Galaxy A53 is no different in size and structure from the previous generation; We are on the same side with the same 6.5-inch plastic phone with a matte body and glossy frame; Of course, the Koreans have made minor changes to the look of the phone to make their new mid-range design more in line with the flagship Galaxy S22.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Review

The body material of the Galaxy A53 is no different from the previous generation; The back panel and frame of the device are made of matte and glossy plastic, respectively; While the screen of the phone is protected by a flat cover made of Gorilla Glass 5. Other than the relatively thick bottom edge, the other three-edged edges of the screen are not as narrow as we know from Samsung’s flagships; But they do not hurt your eyes either.

Weighing 189 grams, the Galaxy A53 is no different from the previous generation, and its dimensions are 8.1 ۴ 74.8 × 159.6 mm, which is slightly narrower (0.3 mm) and wider; But since the curvature of the frame surface of the device has been reduced just like the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy A52 does not sit comfortably in the hand. With all that said, the Galaxy E 53 is not as “bad” as a rugged device like the Poco X3, and working with it conveys a good feeling to the user.

It is difficult to distinguish the Galaxy A53 from the Galaxy A52 from the rearview, the shape of the camera protrusion, the order of the cameras, the location of the Samsung logo and the texture of the back panel of the two devices are very similar; However, the bulge thickness appears to have slightly decreased. On the rectangular protrusion of the A53, we see the “quad” camera set and LED flash.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Review

Thanks to the OLED panel, the Galaxy A53 fingerprint sensor is located below the display. This sensor is of optical type and offers satisfactory accuracy and speed of operation. The Galaxy E 53 uses a USB 2.0 Type-C port on the bottom edge, But it does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The Galaxy A53 is available in four colors: black, white, blue, and peach, and is IP67 certified, just like the previous generation; Understand that a Samsung mid-range phone can withstand up to 30 minutes of water pressure at a depth of one meter.

Galaxy A53 screen and speaker

At first glance, there is no difference between the Galaxy A53 and the previous generation; Both phones feature a 6.5-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, a very good 405 pixel-inch density, a 20: 9 aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Review

As expected, there is no adaptive refresh rate on the A53 mid-range phone; According to our reviews, in the One UI interface environment, the refresh rate is fixed at 120 Hz; But apps like Camera or Call of Duty run at a constant 60Hz refresh rate.

According to Wironal measurements, the Galaxy A53 display behaves similarly to the previous generation in terms of brightness; The maximum display brightness was 640.5 in manual mode and a very good 1290 nits in automatic mode. On the other hand, the phone’s ambient light sensor also has a very good performance; This way, if you set the brightness settings to auto mode, the 53 screen will be readable in direct sunlight.

As you’d expect from Samsung’s flagship handsets, the Galaxy E 53 offers sub-color profiles Natural (the most accurate colors) and Vivid (eye-catching colors) in the display settings, which are defined on the sRGB and DCI P3 spaces, respectively; The A53 obviously produces colors more accurately than the previous generation. In Natural profile there is a very slight tendency to warm and in Vivid there is a relative tendency to cold.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Review

The Galaxy A53 uses stereo speakers; Speakers that are located at the bottom edge of the frame and the top edge of the screen (integrated with the call speaker), respectively. A53 transmits mid-range and high-frequency sounds with the same level of accuracy as flagship devices; But in low frequency and bass sounds, they are not good, on the other hand, the volume is far from the best on the market.

Software and user interface of Galaxy A53

The Galaxy A53, like the Galaxy S22 family, comes with Android 12 and One UI 4.1 by default; So in appearance it is not much different from One UI 4. Earlier in the review of One UI 4 , we put the features of this user interface under a magnifying glass; But One UI 4.1 itself is experiencing minor improvements over version 4.0, which we’ll cover below.

RAM Plus was first introduced with One UI 4.0; Ability to allow the user to use 4 GB of smartphone storage memory as extra RAM; But with One UI 4.1, the user can choose the amount of this extra RAM from 2, 4, 6 or 8 GB.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Review

The Smart Calendar feature allows the Samsung Calendar app to access the dates and times mentioned in text messages as events in the calendar. The Koreans say Smart Calendar will be compatible with the phone’s default messengers and apps such as Line, WhatsApp, Viber and Signal; But it is unclear what will happen to apps like Microsoft Thames and Telegram.

In One UI 4.1, Samsung introduces a feature called Smart Widgets that works similarly to Apple’s Smart Stacks, allowing the user to merge multiple widgets and switch between views by swiping. One UI smart widgets are available in three sizes.

Performance, gaming experience and charging the Galaxy A53

Samsung does not provide information about the name of the Galaxy A53 chip, and on the page related to this phone on its website, it is enough to just write the phrase “5-nanometer octa-core processor”. Our research shows that Samsung’s new midrange is powered by the Exynos 1280 chip.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Review

The Exynos 1280 uses a combination of a 2.40 GHz dual-core Cortex A78 and a 6-core 2.0 GHz Cortex A55 as the CPU, and uses Arm’s 4-core Mali-G68 module as the GPU. The Exynos 1280 intermediate chip is also capable of connecting to 5G networks.

Galaxy A53 in three versions 6 | 128, 8 | 128 and 8 | 256 GB and the ability to upgrade the storage memory is sold through the memory card slot. We had a 256GB version of the phone with 206GB of storage available for review. The interesting thing about the Galaxy E 53 is that it reads much faster than the Galaxy A52s.

If we want to compare the Galaxy A53 with almost expensive products, we come to the Galaxy S20 FE 4G or 5G model. The 4G model of this phone gives you 40% faster CPU and 90% more powerful GPU compared to its mid-range brother.

Wironal used GameBench software to obtain the above table frame rates.

The Galaxy A53 also did not perform satisfactorily at PUBG New State at an unstable frame rate of 22 to 35 frames per second. On the other side of the field, Call of Duty also offers Medium graphics settings at its best at 55 to 60 frames per second.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Review

Increasing the battery capacity is one of the few improvements of the Galaxy A53 compared to the previous generation. Samsung’s new intermediate uses a 5,000 mAh battery to power it and also supports 25-watt wired charging; Unfortunately, the Koreans, after their flagships, have also removed the charger from A-series phones, including the A53.

The Galaxy A53 offsets its disappointing performance against the competition with a very good charge. The Galaxy E 53 recorded a time of 12 hours and 13 minutes in the PCMark‌ battery test; This means that if you do not use your phone heavily, the screen of the Galaxy A53 can stay on for up to 12 hours, which is a very good result.

Galaxy A53 camera

The hardware of the Galaxy A53 camera is no different from the previous generation. The smartphone uses a combination of four 64-megapixel wide-angle, 12-megapixel ultraviolet, 5-megapixel macro and depth-of-field cameras as a quad-rear camera, and a 32-megapixel module in the front as a selfie camera.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Review

The Galaxy A53 wide-angle camera uses a 64-megapixel 1 / 1.7-inch sensor with 0.8-micrometer pixels on the back of a 26mm wide-angle lens with f / 1.8. Just like the previous generation, the wide-angle camera uses optical image stabilization and phase-detection autofocus.

The ultraviolet camera uses a 12-megapixel sensor with 1.12 micrometer pixels and an ultra-wide f / 2.2 lens with a 123-degree field of view. The Galaxy A53 uses a macro and depth gauge module with a 5-megapixel sensor and f / 2.4 lens, respectively, to capture close-ups and separate the subject from the background in portrait photography.

Dynamic range of Galaxy A53 camera

Ultraviolet cameras are usually placed lower than the main camera in terms of dynamic range, whether in expensive devices, intermediate and economical devices; So it is no surprise that the Galaxy A53 is in a similar situation. Looking at the wall of the building, one can see that the ultraviolet camera has lost many details due to direct sunlight; But the main camera was able to restore some of the details.

Note that the dynamic range of the Galaxy A53 main camera is not as wide as that of the flagship devices; Because it has not been able to fully restore all the details lost in the bright part of the image; But overall, the performance of the A52 family is much better than that of the Xiaomi 11 Lite.

Colors and details of the Galaxy A53 camera

At first glance, you can see the higher contrast of the main camera image. Both cameras record colors more saturated than they really are; But the colors of the main camera look more eye-catching. Magnifying the border between the dark and light subjects of the ultra-wide photo, you will notice a color distortion and a purple halo that is less noticeable in the main camera photo.

If you look closely at the slices created from the wide and ultra-wide photographs, you will notice that although we have considered the image frame the same when shooting; But again, the ultraviolet camera image is less detailed and softer than the main camera image.

Galaxy A53 camera performance in the dark

The Galaxy A53 has Night mode access with both its wide-angle and ultraviolet cameras; But Zumite studies show that Samsung intermediates generally increase the ISO level to achieve brighter photos when selecting Night mode while maintaining the exposure time. In any case, we also achieved a relatively long exposure of a quarter of a second when shooting with the Galaxy E 53.

The following wide-angle and ultraviolet images were taken with one-thirteenth and one-eighth of a second exposure and ISO 1,800 levels, respectively. The photo of the Galaxy A53 wide-angle camera is brighter and less noisy, and has eye-catching colors; But the Ultraviolet camera captures washed colors and little detail. In the colors of both photos, there is a tendency to warm.

Selfie and portrait photography with Galaxy A53

The Galaxy A53‌ captures portrait photos with the main camera and aided by the depth gauge module, and relies on a camera with a 32-megapixel 1 / 2.8-inch sensor and a 26mm wide-angle lens with an f / 2.2 aperture for selfies. As expected, portrait photos are captured with a resolution of four in one pixel, with a resolution of 16 megapixels; Surprisingly, selfies are upgraded from 8 megapixels to 12 megapixels after combining four by one pixels!

Samsung mediator works well in distinguishing the subject from the background; But there is no natural implementation of the bokeh effect and the whole background disappears evenly. Whether in selfies or portraits, the colors are eye-catching and the dynamic range is relatively wide; But the details of selfies are by no means on a par with the main camera.

  • how do i find the ram capacity of my computer?

Macro photography with Galaxy A53

If you have a lot of light and a stable subject, you will capture relatively attractive macro photos with the Galaxy A53; But due to the lack of autofocus, it is a bit difficult to record details, especially in moving subjects.

The Galaxy A53 is capable of shooting 4K video at 30 frames per second with all rear cameras (except macro cameras) and selfies; 4K videos have satisfying detail and attractive colors, and the dynamic range in them is wider than the average mid-range device. The bitrate of 4K videos is about 48 Mbps.

Summary and comparison of Galaxy A53 with competitors

The Galaxy A53 is not an inefficient phone in itself; Bright and precise OLED display, satisfactory daily performance, powerful camera and excellent charging of this phone will probably attract a lot of attention; But the Galaxy A53 isn’t the only midfielder, and it has little to say about some of Samsung’s own products.

By paying much less and buying the Galaxy A52s, you will get the same photographic and visual experience similar to the Samsung A53 with much better processing and graphics performance, or by paying the same amount and buying the Galaxy S20 FE, you will get a more efficient flagship chip and camera. The Galaxy A53 is experiencing slight improvements compared to before and is powered by a weaker chip. On the other hand, in the same price range, among the Xiaomi products, you can find very powerful models such as the Redmi K40.
