It does not matter if we are using a computer, laptop, or mobile phone because it is common for everyone to take screenshots of the content inside the screen. So if you are a Windows 11 user or want to migrate to it in the near future, you need to know how to take a screenshot. In this article, we will teach you how to take screenshots in Windows 11.

You may want to take a screenshot of the entire page or save part of it. Either way, there are different ways in front of you. Stay tuned to Wironal for information on how to take screenshots in Windows 11.

  • Take a screenshot on a Mac (6 easier ways)

1. Screenshot in Windows 11 with the Snipping tool

Snipping is a free tool in Windows that was first introduced in 2002 as PowerToy and later became one of the free tools of the Redmondian operating system. This program is small and has a simple design and user interface and minimalism. In addition, Windows 11 is the best built-in tool for taking screenshots of a specific part of the screen.

To take a screenshot with the Snipping Tool, you must first go to the search bar of the Start menu and search for the phrase Snipping tool. Then select the best-related option. Now the program must be open for you. Click New to activate the screenshot layer.

In the small bar that appears for this tool, there are several ways to take a screenshot in Windows 11: square cut, free cut, window cut, full-screen cut, and more.

Select the screenshot method you want, then select the area from which you want to take a screenshot and release the mouse pointer. This will take a screenshot successfully.

On the main page of this tool, there is a feature to delay the capture of screenshots. To access it, go to Time before snip with the clock icon and click on No delay. Now a drop-down list opens with different times.

2. Screen with keyboard shortcuts

If you do not want to go to the Snipping‌ tool every time you take a screenshot, you can use a keyboard shortcut to take a screenshot in Windows 11. Here are three keyboard shortcuts for doing just that.

Screenshot with Print Screen Key (PrtSc)

If you want to take a quick and easy screenshot, press the print screen key. This will take a picture of the entire system screen. In fact, by pressing PrtSc, this key takes a screenshot and saves it to the clipboard, instead of giving you a PNG screenshot.

This method works for attaching a screenshot to an email or editing an image before saving it. When you want to turn this image into a good screenshot, you must first go to a photo editing program and then paste it into this program and finally save it.

Screenshot with Win + PrtSc shortcuts

If you want to take a screenshot of the full screen of Windows 11, go to these shortcuts. You can easily take a screenshot of the screen by pressing the Windows key and print screen, and you can find it in the image folder, inside the screenshot folder.

Screenshot of the active window with the Alt and PrtSc keys

If you are one of those people who open multiple tabs and have several programs on your system screen, the above methods do not work for you because they take screenshots of the entire screen, while you may be looking for screenshots of a single program.

At this time, you should go to the Alt + PrtSc keyboard shortcut in Windows 11 to take a screenshot of the active window. This will save a screenshot of the active window on the clipboard.

3. Take screenshots with Xbox Game Bar

X Bar Game Bar is another free Microsoft tool that was launched in 2016. Although Microsoft actually provided the tool to help gamers record video games, it also includes screenshot capture capabilities.

Press Win + G to get started. This will bring up the game load layer on your system screen. Instead, you can type the Game bar in the Start menu search bar and select the best option.

Then go to the Capture section at the top left of the screen and click on Take screenshot with the camera icon. A screenshot will now be taken of the screen and a notification will appear on the right side of the screen. This screenshot is saved in the Videos / Captures folder by default.

4. Take screenshots with third-party applications

Although Windows built-in tools may be sufficient for many users, they are sometimes not as appropriate as they should be. As a result, you may have to switch to third-party applications. In this regard, we want to go to two open-source programs to do this: ShareX and GIMP.

1. ShareX

ShareX was first released in October 2007 as a free and open-source screenshot tool for Windows PCs. Since then, the tool has grown in popularity and is considered one of the best screenshot programs on the Redmondian operating system.

To use this app, you must first go to its official site, download it and install it on your system. By running the program, various shortcuts will be placed in the main menu in front of you.

On the left are various settings that you can try. For example, by clicking on Tools, you will be presented with several editing options such as color picker, page color picker, and image editor.

Similarly, there is an After capture tasks option in the left menu, by which you can pre-determine the tasks you want to do with the screenshot.

For example, you want to save a file or you want to save it on a clipboard. Or instead of saving them all, you want to open a screenshot in an image editing program. Do all this in this section.

You can do this and much more through the ShareX main menu.

2. GIMP

GIMP is another free and open-source program that can help you take screenshots on Windows 11. Of course, since GIMP contains several advanced tools, it is often referred to as an image editing program. However, you can also use it to take screenshots.

To get started with GIMP, you must first go to the download page, download it and install it on your system. Follow these steps:

  • Now run the program from the main menu and go to File> Create> Screenshot.
  • In the next window, select the settings you want and click Snap.

You can delay taking a screenshot for a few seconds via GIMP. This program also allows you to switch pages to go to the window you want, if this feature does not exist, you will take a screenshot of the GIMP program itself.

If you are satisfied with the screenshot, you can save it via File> Export As. Select a location to save, type a name for it, and finally click Export. Your screenshot was saved successfully.

With the above methods, you can easily and quickly take a screenshot of the latest Microsoft operating system.
