It has probably occurred to all of us that we want to remove someone from the image. Many times when we look at a photo, we notice the presence of a stranger or unwanted objects in the photo that have almost destroyed the photo. This problem occurs especially in crowded and crowded tourist areas. In this case, you probably do not want to delete the photo completely because of this problem. Fortunately, Photoshop offers 5 handy tools to remove people from Photoshop images. You can use these tools to delete people as well as objects and create perfect images.
In this article, we will teach you how to remove people from images with Photoshop, and we will explain how to use all 5 of these tools. We have used Adobe Photoshop 2020 for training, but all these tools are also available in older versions of this software and you will not have a problem with this.
Photoshop tools to remove people and objects from the image
As mentioned, Photoshop ۵ has 5 separate tools for removing people and objects from an image. You can use these tools separately or together.
The first 3 tools can be found in the toolbox on the left side of the software (pictured below). You can use all 3 of these tools together to get the best results.

First tool – Spot Healing Brush
The Spot Healing Brush tool can be used to combine dots from a photo and combine the pixels of different parts of the photo. In other words, الگو pattern an area and create it in another part of the image. The function of this tool is that the texture of a selected area is combined with the color and radiance of the target area. The interesting thing about using the Spot Healing Brush tool is that you do not have to choose the source point yourself. Just drag and drop on the desired points so that Photoshop itself does everything and removes that area.
You can see the options and settings of Spot Healing Brush in the picture below.

This tool has 3 different operating modes, each of which changes the mechanism of operation of the tool by selecting each one:
- Content-aware mode
One of the features of the spot healing brush tool is that it makes decisions automatically and intelligently and selects the best way and choice to fill (remove) the desired areas.
- Create texture mode
In this case, the information tool examines the information around the area and decides on the texture and repair of the area accordingly. In fact, the tool tries to create a texture similar to the selected area. This mode is not very effective for removing objects and people.
- Proximity match mode
Using this mode is more suitable for removing large areas and is not very efficient for removing details. In this case, the tool tries to analyze the information around your area and automatically selects the best point for sampling. It then uses this area to delete the person or object you want.
All in all, Conent-Aware Mode probably has the best results for removing people from Photoshop images.
In the picture below, we used the spot healing brush tool to remove the boy you see in the picture.

The second tool – Healing Brush
This tool also allows you to combine different areas of the photo. In fact,. You can pattern some of the pixels in the image and combine them into the target part. The mechanism of the Healing Brush tool is such that it combines the texture of the patterned area with the color and brightness around the target area.
You can see the features and settings of the Healing Brush tool in the image below.

How to use the Healing Brush is very similar to the Clone stamp tool. The difference is that the Healing Brush is more efficient and has more unique features.
The Healing Brush tool selects an area as a template and then combines the texture of that source area with the color and brightness of the pixels around the target area. Clone Stamp, on the other hand, only copies the same pixels into the new area. In other words, you will need an alternative section to remove people from the image. This tool allows you to select the replacement part yourself and automatically adjusts the color and transparency when replacing so that the image is completely smooth and natural.
This tool reads and examines pixels within a 10% radius around the selected area. By examining and reading the pixels around the selected area, this tool can create a smooth and gradual transition between colors and transparency. In other words, the area you are deleting blends in perfectly with the surrounding areas.
How to use Healing Brush?
To get started, press the Alt key and select the pattern (sampling) section. Release the Alt key. Now click on the parts of the image that you want to replace (delete) and drag the mouse over them. You can easily replace the sampled part with other parts. This method can be used to remove people from Photoshop images.
In the image below, the Healing Brush tool has been used to remove the woman in the photo.

The third tool – Patch Tool
The Patch Tool is also part of the Healing Brush toolkit. These 3 combination tools are very powerful and suitable for retouching and editing photos. The main function of the Patch Tool is to repair larger parts of images. Using this tool, you can delete annoying and extra people or objects in the photo.
The Patch Tool was added to Photoshop almost at the same time as the Healing Tool. In terms of function and mechanism, these two tools are almost identical to each other. That is, in both tools, you sample the section and replace the section based on the sampled area. Photoshop also tries to combine light and color combinations of these two parts and make the most natural removal and replacement. The main difference between the two tools is that unlike the Healing Tool, which uses a brush, you have to select an area in the Patch Tool. Therefore, it will be more useful for larger areas.
You can see the settings and features of the Patch Tool in the image below.

How to use Patch Tool?
- Select the Patch Tool and select the area around you with the mouse. This step is almost like using the same Lasso Selection tool.
- Hover the mouse pointer over the selected area, click and drag it in any direction you want.
- As you can see, the selected section is replaced. So choose the best area to replace.
- When you release the click, Photoshop does the rest and miraculously combines the pixels to get the best results.
- You can press Control + D (on Windows) and Cmd + D (on Mac) to remove the hashtags of the selected area.
Example:
In the photo below, the Patch Tool is used to remove the woman standing on the edge of the cliff.

The fourth tool – Clone Stamp Tool
Another way to remove people from Photoshop images is to use the Clone Stamp tool. This tool helps you copy and duplicate parts of the image. This process involves selecting part of the image as the starting point for sampling, and then copying the new part based on that selected point.
You can see the Clone Stamp tool in the tool menu on the left side of the image.

You can see the settings and features of this tool in the picture below.

If you select the Use All Layers option, Photoshop uses all the layers of the image for sampling. That is, the bottom and side layers (all visible layers) are also selected. Otherwise, only the active layer is selected for sampling.
How to use Clone Stamp Tool?
- Press the Alt key. Your mouse cursor becomes a target. Click on the desired point for sampling. This point will now be used as a reference point to start composing and copying.
- Release the Alt key. Now click on any part of the photo you want and drag the mouse pointer to do the mixing and copying based on the sampled section. When you do this, you will also see a circle near the reference point, which indicates the part that is currently being sampled and copied from that area.
Example:
In the photo below, we removed the man walking on the beach using the Clone Stamp tool.

Fifth tool – Content-aware fill
The Content-Aware Fill tool is one of the best and most useful tools for removing people from Photoshop images. This tool allows users to remove unwanted people or objects from the image in the easiest and simplest way possible. To do this, just select the part you want to delete. Photoshop automatically selects alternative content and does all the work.
If you plan to use this tool, we recommend using newer versions of Photoshop software. This tool was first introduced in Adobe Photoshop CS5, but its use was limited. Then it became more widely used in Photoshop CC 2019, and in Adobe CC 2020 onwards it is constantly evolving and becoming smarter.
As you can see in the image below, you can select Content-Aware Fill from the Edit Photoshop menu.

How to use Content-Aware Fill Photoshop?
- Open the desired photo in Photoshop. Use the tool of your choice to select the desired section.
- Go to Edit> Content-Aware Fill. A new page will open, an example of which you can see in the image below.

In the new page and environment that is created, you can also see the result. The software uses a mask to display the sampled and replaced area. You can now use the tools on the screen (left and right) to adjust and manipulate the sampling area. In the right panel of the page you will see different options for sampling and replacement. Each of these methods has a specific mechanism for doing so, and the result will be different. We recommend that you select different options and choose the best option (which performs the most natural removal and replacement).
- You can also use the Lasso Tool and the Sampling Brush Tool on the left side of the image to optimize the sampling areas.
Example:
The image below uses Photoshop Content-Aware Fill feature for the car and other photo crowds around the child.
