How to extract zip files in google drive? On desktops and laptops, you can easily open zip files and use their contents with tools like WinZip and 7-Zip. But if the zip file or ZIP is in Google Drive, is there a way to decompress the file without downloading it? Follow Wironal to get the answer to this question.
It is safe to say that compressed files, or in ZIP terms, are the most widely used format for sharing on the Internet after PDF. If you are surfing in cyberspace and downloading different files, you must have come across many types of compressed files. Opening these files on a computer is not difficult at all and it is enough to have a suitable program installed. But in the case of cloud spaces, the situation is different, and since it is not possible to install programs in these spaces, opening zip files without downloading them can be a big challenge.
Working with compressed files in the cloud
Currently, if someone shares a zip file in a cloud folder, there is no other way to access the content than to download the file. After downloading the file to your desktop computer, you can decompress it and then work with its contents. But it is time-consuming and tedious. Especially if you need to upload content to Google Drive again after that.
But fortunately, there is a simple solution to this problem. A plugin called ZIP Extractor can open zip files directly inside Google Drive and provide you with its contents.

There are two ways to install this plugin. Either go through the Chrome Web Store and install the plugin on your browser or go to account> New> More> Connect more apps in Google Drive and then search and install ZIP Extractor.

After installing ZIP Extractor, you can open any zip file in Google Drive. To do this, select the desired file, right-click on it, then select Open with, and finally ZIP Extractor. In the first use, the plugin will ask you to allow ZIP Extractor to access Google Drive content, which you can do after confirming this request:

1- The ZIP Extractor plugin shows you all the contents of the zip file and you have to select the items that you want to decompress. (By default all the content in the file is selected)
2. After selecting your favorites, you must click the Extract Now button to extract the contents of the file and place it in a new folder. By default, this folder is created inside the current folder but you can change its path manually.
3- The work is done and you can deliver your desired content in a folder with the same name as the compressed file.
Just keep in mind that in this method, the zip file opens directly into the cloud, so its speed depends on your bandwidth. Therefore, extracting large files can be time-consuming if you have little bandwidth.
