Everything fails when you receive the Windows Not Responding message. You can not click or type anything. Restarting your computer will destroy all the things you were working on, and if this problem recurs, it can be annoying because you are wasting your time and also reducing your productivity.
Numerous problems can cause Windows Not Responding messages. Here are some tips to help reduce or eliminate the message that the Microsoft Windows application is not responding to.

Virus scan your system
If your computer has a problem, it’s a good idea to clear your mind about viruses first. If Windows Defender does not detect anything, go to other anti-viruses such as Kaspersky, Norton and Avast and check your system again. Try to look for viruses as a first step to make sure that viruses are not the cause of such a problem.
2. Update your operating system
Sometimes Windows itself needs updating. To see if your system needs updating, press Win + I and then click Update & Security. All the upgrades or packages needed to solve the operating system problems are listed in this section.
Once you have installed these updates, restart your computer to see if you still receive this error message.
3. Delete temporary files
Large volumes of temporary files can take up a lot of space. These files can interfere with Windows performance.
To delete these files:
- Press Win + R to open the Run window.
- In the available space, type temp and press Enter.
- In the window that opens, press Ctrl + A to select all the files and then delete them.

Update your drivers
An older driver could be the cause of Windows crashes. Update your drivers to see if this fixes the issue.
- In the search box at the bottom of the page, type Device Manager.
- Click on the program that was found to run it.

- Open any hardware options.
- Right-click on the hardware and select Update Driver.

5. Use your operating system troubleshooter
- Go to Settings by pressing Win + I.
- Type System Maintenance in the search field.
- You will be presented with two options. Click Perform recommended maintenance tasks automatically.

- Click Next and follow the instructions.
- When the scan is complete, restart your system to see if the problem is resolved.
6. Scan System File Checker
This scan checks the integrity of the files and detects if the files are working properly. If a file is found in this scan that is not working properly, the software itself will fix the problem automatically.
- Type cmd in the search bar at the bottom of your page.
- Click Run as administrator.

3. When Command Prompt opens, type sfc / scannow and press Enter.

This process takes some time. Of course, it is done in the background and you can do your work.
7. Use Clean Boot
With Clean Boot you can have the best chance of finding the software that causes this problem. To have a Clean Boot:
- Press Win + R to open the Run window.
- Type MSCONFIG and click Ok.

3. Open the Boot tab and uncheck Safe boot.

4. Click the General tab.

- Select the Selective Startup option and uncheck Load startup items.
- Click the Services tab.

- Check the Hide all Microsoft services option and then click Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab.

- Click Open Task Manager.
- In Task Manager, right-click on any option and disable all.
Once you’ve done that, you can gradually re-enable each of these options to see which software is causing the problem. You can then reinstall or repair the software you want. Disable if one of the services is causing this problem.
8. Memory check
You can check your system memory to detect if there is an error in the memory.
- Press Win + R.
- Type mdsched.exe and click Ok.
- Select whether you want to scan now or the next time you restart the system.

Your screen will turn blue for a while when you start this scan. do not be scared. If there is a problem, you will see the problem code and how to solve it.
