A few hours ago, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S22 series phones, among which, the S22 Ultra is the most important and attractive model. Last year, the S21 Ultra also attracted a lot of attention. But what are the differences between the two phones and is the S22 Ultra worth leaving out the previous generation? In the following, we will compare the key features of these two phones to see what they have to say about each other.
Galaxy S22 Ultra vs S21 Ultra
Price
According to Samsung, the cheapest model of the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be available at a price of $ 1199, which uses 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. The most expensive model of this phone, which is based on 12 GB of RAM and 1 terabyte of internal memory, is available for $ 1599. Last year, the S21 Ultra came in with a base price of $ 1,199.
In many countries, after the release of the new phone, the previous generation usually faces significant discounts. But at the moment, users can no longer buy the S21 Ultra through the company’s online store, and in other stores, the phone has not received much discount. So, given that there is no significant price difference between the two phones, less users of the previous generation will certainly buy it, and buying a new generation is a more logical step.
Design and display

In appearance, the most important difference between the two phones is limited to their back panel. The Galaxy S22 Ultra measures 77.9 by 163.3 by 8.9 mm and weighs 229 grams. The S21 body, on the other hand, measures 75.6 by 165.1 by 8.9 mm and weighs 227 grams. As you can see, the two phones are practically no different in terms of weight, and only the new model is slightly shorter and wider.
Both phones use a waterproof body. But on the other hand, the back and front panel of the new model is about 12.5% more durable than the previous generation, thanks to the use of Gorilla Glass Victos Plus protective glass. One of the key differences between the two is the S22 Ultra’s use of the S Pen stylus, which is the first such feature on a Galaxy S series phone. Samsung has significantly reduced pen latency, which will improve the experience of using it.
The new flagship features a 6.8-inch display based on QHD + resolution and variable rate refresh up to 120Hz. Samsung claims that this display can provide a maximum brightness of 1750 nits. The S21 Ultra display has the same size, resolution, and refresh rate, and the most important difference is the maximum brightness, which reaches 1500 nits. The brighter the screen, the better it performs in displaying HDR content, but there are several tests that need to be done so that we can speak with confidence.
Camera

Although the camera module design of the two phones is not the same, in fact, the cameras used for both phones are not significantly different. Specifically, the back panel of both phones has a 108-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x zoom, and a 10-megapixel periscope camera with 10x zoom. Users of both models must also use a 40-megapixel camera to take selfies.
However, Samsung claims that the S22 Ultra has significantly improved image processing capabilities thanks to the use of a more advanced neural processing unit. Over the past few years, the importance of image processing has multiplied as the camera hardware no longer has much room for improvement, so companies can change the quality of images recorded with their phones by focusing on smart algorithms.
Hardware specifications
The Galaxy S22 Ultra uses the 1st generation Snapdragon 8 or Exynos 2200, both of which are 4nm chips. For comparison, the Galaxy S21 Ultra came with the Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100, which are based on 5nm technology. Although there were initially some worrying reports about the performance of the Exynos 2200, it seems that the 1st generation Snapdragon 8 processor and the latest Exynos chipset are not much different. But the main competition is for the GPU, which we can not yet say with certainty.
The most expensive model S22 Ultra is equipped with 12 GB of RAM and 1 terabyte of internal memory, but last year users were faced with the purchase of the most expensive model S21 Ultra with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory.
Battery life

Samsung uses a 5000 mAh battery for both phones, so they are no different in terms of capacity. So we need to see if Samsung has been able to extend battery life with software and hardware optimizations. In this regard, we must mention the charging speed of these two phones. Last year, the S21 Ultra was introduced with a 25-watt wired charging speed and a 15-watt wired charging speed. But this year, wired charging speeds have increased significantly, and now users can use 45-watt chargers for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Of course, the wireless charging speed remains the same at 15 watts.
The last word
All in all, there are many similarities between these two phones, such as the display and the cameras. But on the other hand, we have to mention the use of new chipsets, improved image processing capabilities, increased charging speed and, most importantly, the presence of a dedicated S Pen, which is a very important feature for many users.
