Does fast charging damage battery life? Fast charging technology allows you to charge your phone battery much faster than normal, so you can continue working with this device as soon as possible. But will using this emerging technology damage the phone’s battery in the long run? Follow us on Wironal to help you find the answer to this question.

Fast charging is becoming a standard in smartphones, electric vehicles, laptops and other rechargeable devices. This technology is very attractive and attractive because it allows you to reuse your device or machine in less time than you would normally expect.

But the question that may be on the minds of many of you is that such a dramatic increase in the speed of the battery charging process also has negative consequences? Can continuous use of fast charging reduce battery life? And of course, can fast charging be harmful to parts of the phone other than the battery?

  • Negative effects of technology

What is fast charge technology?

As we said, fast charging is a feature that allows users of rechargeable devices to charge and ready to use their device in a fraction of the usual time. Support for a fast charge phone, tablet, or any other device also depends on the type of charging circuit designed for it, and simply connecting a regular phone to a fast charger can not charge it faster.

In fact, your device can only receive so much power that the charging circuit is designed to control it. This is exactly why connecting a regular phone to a fast charger will not necessarily increase the charging speed. Of course, there are other reasons that may slow down the charging speed of the smartphone, and these should also be considered.

Does fast charging damage battery life?

Fast charging makes the charging process easier every time you need to reset the battery. Due to the increasing amount of time we spend working with electronic devices such as smartphones or tablets these days, and given that the battery capacity of this device has not been able to keep pace with other parts, the need to charge is felt more than ever. .

In this article, we will focus on smartphones, but what is said is more or less true for other similar devices. In the field of smartphones, there are several fast charging standards on the market, but fortunately most of them are compatible with each other and the charger can be used for each other.

  • Why is my phone not charging Android? Try these 7 ways

What exactly does fast charge mean?

Fast charging has become an effective marketing term for various electronic products these days. However, we usually hear the term more in the case of smartphones.

Fast charging is a general term and can be misleading at times. In fact, you buy a smartphone that is said to support fast charging, but in practice you will not notice much difference! So, the question is, how many watts of power is considered fast charging?

Smartphone manufacturers often refer to any power above 10 watts as fast charging. However, there is no specific standard for fast charging speed. The general rule is that the higher the power number, the higher the charging speed.

Does fast charging damage the battery?

This question is usually posed by the fact that charging a high-power battery causes it to overheat, and as you probably know, heat is harmful to the battery. Especially lithium-ion batteries, which are used in most smartphones today, are very sensitive to heat. This is why fast charging systems try to reduce the heat generated as much as possible while increasing power.

But if we want to answer the above question in one word, we must say no. The truth is that fast charging does not do much damage to the battery. This is also due to the performance of fast charging technology. Fast charging batteries have two charging stages. The first step is when the battery is full or low capacity. At this stage, the battery is charged to the maximum possible power. This is exactly why phone companies often refer to a charge rate of 0 to 50%, 0 to 80% or the like when introducing and marketing their products. During these periods, the charging speed is at its highest and the recorded time record is more interesting.

Does fast charging damage battery life?

But as soon as the battery capacity reaches a certain level, the charging speed decreases to avoid excessive pressure and heat, which can damage the battery. You may have noticed while charging your phone that the charging speed is very high up to a certain percentage, but after a while the speed decreases and you have to wait a relatively long time for the battery to fully charge.

It is also worth noting that if the temperature of the phone exceeds a certain limit during charging, fast charging may turn off automatically.

How do manufacturers reduce the negative effects of fast charging?

Smartphone manufacturers have developed another way to reduce the negative effects of fast charging on lifespan. In this method, a two-piece battery is used and the two separate parts of the battery share the input current in the fast charging phase, thus reducing its intensity, which in turn prevents possible damage.

Another precaution is to design different software systems for battery management. Smartphones use a dedicated management system to monitor the charging process and prevent damage to the battery due to high input current. Apple’s optimized battery charge is a great example of this.

It’s basically the phone’s battery management software that determines whether fast charging will damage the battery. The better the battery management software does its job, the less the negative effects of fast charging will be.

Overall, fast charging has no significant effect on battery life. But given the physical laws of the technology, you should not expect your phone to last longer than usual. So fast charging at best does not reduce battery life, but it does not have any positive effect in this regard.

Of course, it should be noted that charging speed is only one of the factors affecting battery life. Battery health depends on a number of factors that must be considered. But in general, the battery is a consumable part and loses its original quality over time. For example, Apple has mentioned the following in its support section for smartphones:

A typical battery is designed to maintain up to 80 percent of its original capacity during 500 full charge cycles under normal conditions.

Do we have to worry about the negative effects of fast charging on our phone battery?

This concern is not really great. As mentioned above, the charge management software takes care of the battery and prevents it from being damaged as much as possible. However, it is clear that fast charging is likely to affect battery life, but this effect is not so great as to cause serious concern and deprive you of the benefits of high charging speed.
